Early Years: Exploring Family Relationships and Traditions

Contributed by Onna van Cooten

This month, the Early Years classes have been learning about family relationships. The students brought in photos of their families, and we had some great conversations about what family life looks like for each of them. We talked about the different roles family members take on, like helping with chores, caring for younger siblings, or participating in special family events. It was great to hear the students share stories about how they help out at home.
To deepen our inquiry, students also shared videos of their families. These videos gave us a closer look at family traditions, celebrations, and everyday routines. Seeing these moments sparked conversations about how families show love and care for one another in different ways. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about what makes each family unique.
Through these activities, the students gained a deeper understanding of how important family relationships are. They learned that family members support one another in many ways, and each person’s role helps shape the family dynamic.
